I have been a happy customer of American Crew Gel for 10+ years. I have tried all different kinds of hair gels, in different price ranges, & this is the one I keep going back to time & again. I have thick hair, & this works well for me, & does not dry or flake. I like that it is alcohol free.
Smell: it has a slight smell, almost like a men's cologne. Not overpowering & doesn't linger. The smell is noticeable mainly when you are squeezing it from the bottle.
Difference between formulas: I've purchased the light hold & firm hold. I prefer the firm hold because I use less product to get the desired result. Both had similar smells when applying, & are similar consistencies. Both are good quality gels.
This is a really great hair gel. I give it a solid 5 stars & will continue to purchase.

I'm half Latino and European/American mix. My hair is basically black, loose curls, and I keep it short and buzzed on the side. I have quite ethnic 'horse' hair, what my mother likes to call it, and I've grew up on using hair gels. Most store-brand gels leave your hair flaky and dont have a long hold time. However, this American Crew formula is flake-free, and you can even wet it and reset it. It's the only brand of hair products I will buy, as I feel like super model with their pomades, fibers, and hair creams. I will never buy any other hair products again. I used to try some vegan stuff, and I do hope maybe one day American Crew can offer vegan, cruelty free versions of their products.

Over the years, I've tried many brands of gel. Glossimo gel was my favorite for years and then Bain De Terre's original until both companies stopped making them. A friend recommended I try American Crew and I've never looked back. What I like about this gel is that it has a wide range of holds and is not greasy. A trick to increase the power of the hold is to apply it to wetter, not dripping hair vs. damp or dry hair. The wetter your hair, the more a given amount holds.
At home, I use the large bottle and have added a third-party pump. For traveling, I use one of the smaller bottles. Note that the TSA has never questioned the smaller 8 oz. bottle that I keep refilling but know that if you do use their smaller bottle, it is over the TSA's 3 oz. rule.

Returns Policy

You may return most new, unopened items within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. We'll also pay the return shipping costs if the return is a result of our error (you received an incorrect or defective item, etc.).

You should expect to receive your refund within four weeks of giving your package to the return shipper, however, in many cases you will receive a refund more quickly. This time period includes the transit time for us to receive your return from the shipper (5 to 10 business days), the time it takes us to process your return once we receive it (3 to 5 business days), and the time it takes your bank to process our refund request (5 to 10 business days).

If you need to return an item, simply login to your account, view the order using the "Complete Orders" link under the My Account menu and click the Return Item(s) button. We'll notify you via e-mail of your refund once we've received and processed the returned item.

Shipping

We can ship to virtually any address in the world. Note that there are restrictions on some products, and some products cannot be shipped to international destinations.
